Opening Hours
Main Library: Tuesday-Friday 10:00am to 7:00pm
Saturdays, Sundays, National Holidays (if open) 10:00am to 5:00pm
Open from 9:30am during summer vacation
Katabira and Sakuragaoka Branches: 9:00am to 5:00pm
KANIMILIVE Library: 10:00am to 8:00pm(open all year round)
Closed Days (Main Library,Katabira and Sakuragaoka Branches)
Mondays, the last Friday of every month, New Year Period.
 (The library may also be closed on other days. Please check the calendar for details)
Borrowing for the First Time
Anyone living in Japan can Borrow books from the library. A library card is required to borrow library resources (books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, etc).
To make a library card, please bring ID that has your current address (such as a drivers license, student card, certificate of alien registration, etc) and apply at the counter.
If your current address can be confirmed, a library card can be issued straight away.
Library cards can be used at the Main Library, Katabira and Sakuragaoka Branches and KANIMILIVE library.
The library card is valid for 3 years. After that , if you wish to renew it , please bring ID that has your current address to the counter of the library.
Borrowing
Please bring the resources you wish to borrow and your library card to the counter.
Up to ten items (including books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, etc) can be borrowed for up to three weeks.
Returns
Please return borrowed resources to the counter of the Main Library, Katabira or Sakuragaoka Branches, or mobile library. Borrowed resources can be returned to any library. Library card is not required.
When the library is closed, borrowed items can be placed in the after hours returns slot. To prevent damage, please put CDs, DVDs, videos and other audio visual resources in the designated returns box. (The KANIMILIVE Library doesn't have a returns slot.)
Searching for Books
Resources in the library can be searched for using the search terminal in the library or from the search for bookspage on the library website. Please inquire at the counter for further information (please note staff may not be able to speak English).
Reservations

 It is possible to reserve resources that are on loan or are at other libraries. Please complete a request/reservation form and submit it to the counter.

 It is possible to reserve resources that are on loan or are at other libraries. It is necessary to register a passwordfirst.
【Making reservations from the library website】
 You can book the books you searched for on the library website.
 It is necessary to register a password  and an  email address first. 

You can reserve up to 7 items per person.
When reserved resources become available, you will be contacted.
(If you have registered an email address, you will be contacted via email.)
If you do not need to be contacted, please select “contact unnecessary” when making a reservation.

Requests
If the resources you are looking for are not available in the Kani Library, you can request them.
Please fill in a request/reservation form and submit it to the counter.
*The library will try to fulfill requests by borrowing from other libraries or by purchasing the resources.
  However, some resources are not able to be acquired.
*Requests for the purchase of CDs, DVDs, and other audio visual resources are not accepted.
Research
If you need help with research, please ask at the counter. Staff will help you find the resources and information you need.
Copying (Main Library,Katabira and Sakuragaoka Branches)
It is possible to copy library resources within copyright limits.
Please fill in a copy request form at the counter. Black and white copies are ¥10 per page (A4, A3, B5, B4).
Color copies are available at the main library only at ¥20 per page (A4, A3, B5, B4).
Welfare Services (Main Library)
A free postal borrowing service of audio books and other resources is available for people with disabilities living in Kani city. Advance registration is required.
Please enquire at the Main Library for more information.
There is one reading magnifier in the Main Library which can be used within the library. Please ask at the Main Library counter if you wish to use it.
Group Borrowing
You can borrow books at the reading club or school in Kani City.You need to register the selected representative.
A total of up to 200 books and storyboards can be borrowed for up to two months.
Representatives of Kani schools and kids clubs can rent packs of children's books (by theme).
Please contact the Main Library for details.
Rules and Guidelines
*Please refrain from eating and drinking at the library. However, you can bring in drinks with lids.
*Please do not disturb other users.
*Many people use library materials. Please treat it carefully.
  If any resources you borrow are damaged, please don’t try to fix them yourself. Please return the item and any pieces to the counter.
*Please be sure to return the material which received a rent procedure by return date.
